The weather models are not quite in agreement at the moment: some see a sporty winter descending on the northern side of the Alps over Easter, others only a brief interlude of snow with a punctual arrival of spring over the Easter holidays. If the high pressure area over the Atlantic decides in favour of the latter scenario, then a small season opening can be celebrated in St. Corona in Lower Austria.
The gondola to the Hochwechsel summit, including the panorama trails, will remain closed until mid-May, but the Wexl trails at the foot of the mountain will be open over the long Easter weekend from 3-6 April. Including the base and pond lifts (T-bar lifts with easy loop system), as well as an orderable shuttle service and the now 13 trails called "Chuck Norisk", "Terence Thrill" and "Tiny Turner".
New for 2026: Gravity Card holders have free lift access for the first time this summer at Wechsel!
Tip: To avoid overcrowding on the trails, day tickets are limited. The best way to find out the current status is to book your ticket online. If all tickets for the day are already fully booked, it is no longer worth travelling to St. Corona, as no more lift tickets will be issued on site.
If the Wexl trails don't work out due to weather or overcrowding, there are a few weatherproof and year-round alternatives in the same federal state:
