The idea was great, as were the bikes: Swiss cross-country giant BMC created the Scor bike brand in 2021. But why did the brand fall victim to the crisis despite a fan base and good magazine reviews? A brief look at the company's history.

Scor - the Swiss trail and enduro bike brand with a short but striking history. Scor is from Switzerland and was launched in 2021 within the BMC Group (BMC Switzerland AG). The idea was not born in a classic management meeting, but from a heartfelt project: engineers and passionate bikers from BMC wanted to develop a mountain bike that was less focussed on racing performance and more on riding fun, creativity and a playful trail experience - in short: "Play the Mountains".

In the mountain bike scene, Scor was seen as a fresh, unconventional approach: the first models such as the Scor 4060 ST and LT (Shorttravel and Longtravel) and the corresponding E-MTB 4060 Z combined progressive geometries with long suspension travel and a clear focus on trail and enduro use. At the same time, the brand focused on an independent identity that consciously differentiated itself from the more race-orientated DNA of the parent brand BMC.

The range was expanded in the following years, including the Scor 2030, a slightly lighter trail bike with less suspension travel. Children's mountain bikes were also offered at times to give younger riders a playful introduction.

However, like many young brands in the bicycle industry, Scor was increasingly under economic pressure: as part of a strategic reorganisation of its parent company BMC, it was decided in 2025 to stop developing new Scor models and focus more strongly on BMC's core segments. Although production of the existing models continued, the future of the brand was left open or "on pause" placed.

The homepage remains active, existing models appear, but are "not available online"

Scor thus remains an example of a creative niche project within the bike industry: born out of passion and innovation, built on technical expertise - and at the same time a reflection of the challenges faced by many young MTB brands. We miss Scor.

Is the bike even one of the most beautiful in the world?

In a series of articles, BIKE editors honoured the most beautiful bikes in the industry. The Scor 4060 was also mentioned here. You can read the whole article here: >> The most beautiful bikes in the world - Part 2 <<

I really have no idea how many bikes I've tested in my life: 1000? Possibly. But a few hundred for sure. I fell in love with this bike from the very first moment. Piggy pink is not really my colour - but I still found it funny on the Scor because I was looking at the bike through rose-tinted glasses anyway.
Geometry, cockpit, equipment, suspension: everything was just right here. However, I was most impressed by the frame design of this carbon speedster. Functional and elegant at the same time, extravagant without being over the top - and quite clearly: unique. Every time I looked at it, my heart leapt for joy. And every time I rode it, it made me grin.
Whether alpine rides, flow rides, epic rides, shuttle rides or bike park missions: The Scor has reliably pushed my fun barometer up. It's just a shame that the label no longer exists in this form and that the bike can now only be found in certain sizes in online shops.

What counts for him is not how fast you get from A to B, but what happens in between. Lehner writes reports, interviews scene celebrities and tests products and bikes - preferably those with a lot of suspension travel.
