The new Alutech Pelmo should hit the fans of beautifully designed aluminium frames from Germany like a bomb. Company boss Jürgen Schlender is a veteran of the bike scene and has more experience in aluminium frame construction than almost anyone else. The small North German label has made a name for itself above all with for production in Europe made, as our BIKE PROJECT: Europe has impressively demonstrated. For quite a while, the long-stroke Alutech Fanes was the only current fully in the portfolio of the cult manufacturer. Now there is a new star in the sky for potent aluminium fullys: the Alutech Pelmo. Named after Monte Pelmo, a mountain massif in the Dolomites that the locals also call the "throne of the gods", the bike with 150 millimetres of travel at the front and rear is said to offer an extremely wide range of use. And the Pelmo has something else that Alutech didn't have for a long time: a bottle cage mount.

Alutech Boss Jürgen Schlender deals a lot with the topic of sustainability. For him, it was important not to waste too many valuable resources when developing the new Pelmo frame. of the established enduro model Fanes recycled. The use of existing, newly cut material not only ensures less waste, but also the typical design language of Alutech mountain bikes. The organically shaped lower shock mount is already familiar from the Fanes. What the Enduro brother did not have in this position before: milled parts. Schlender is well connected and invested a lot of time in researching suitable partners. He found what he was looking for at a CNC specialist in the Netherlands.
Another completely new feature on an Alutech frame is the storage compartment in the down tube. On the Pelmo, this is accessible from below via a hinged cover. Typical of the Alutech family business and in keeping with the sustainability concept: Jürgen Schlender's wife sews the matching tool bag from old car airbags. With 150 millimetres of travel on the fork and shock, the Alutech Pelmo falls into the all-mountain category and promises a particularly wide range of use. In keeping with this, the complete bike does not weigh too much despite its aluminium frame: in top configuration, the bike should weigh just 13.3 kilos. The new Pelmo can be ridden either with a small 27.5-inch rear wheel in a mullet set-up or with large 29-inch wheels at the front and rear. The conversion is made possible by special offset bushes.
At Eurobike in Frankfurt, Alutech was represented in the particularly exciting handmade area. An absolute eye-catcher: the new Pelmo in the sanded-welded version with polished weld seams. Alutech presented a similar look for the first time with the E-Fanes, which we have already been able to test. The exclusive finish requires a lot of work: Jürgen Schlender grinds each frame for a full 1.5 days, partly by hand. Due to the amount of work involved, the number of this collector's item is limited to a homeopathic ten bikes.
Regardless of the finish, the Alutech Pelmo relies on modern all-mountain geometry. A 64-degree head angle should ensure a smooth ride on the downhill. The seat tubes are particularly short and are designed for the use of telescopic seat posts with plenty of travel. In size M, the seat tube measures 400 millimetres. Meanwhile, the seat angle of 79 degrees is particularly steep. This should make it possible to climb steep ramps efficiently. In the 29-inch configuration, the chainstays measure 452 millimetres. In the Mullet setup, the rear end is playfully short at 427 millimetres in length.
In addition to a frameset for € 2999.95, Alutech is planning to launch two complete Pelmos bikes on the market. In the 4599.95 euro version, a Rockshox Lyrik and a Rockshox Super Deluxe in the Ultimate version already filter the shocks from the trail. The bike is powered by a Sram GX Eagle drivetrain. Deceleration is provided by Formula Cura4 brakes. A DT Swiss wheelset and aluminium add-on parts from Twin Works round off the 15.4 kilo package. For 7499.95 euros, the Alutech Pelmo is available with real eye-catching features. An exotic Intend Hero upside-down fork works at the front, while an Intend Hover shock absorbs the rear. Sram Ultimate brakes and an XX Eagle AXS groupset leave nothing to be desired. DT Swiss EXC1200 wheels and a one-piece carbon cockpit from Faserwerk contribute to the light weight. The limited Sanded Welding version of the top model is available for 8699.95 euros.
