Word should have got around that Cube is a hot tip in the value-for-money sector. For 2023, the Upper Palatinate company has added the luxury of Bosch's Smart System and the 750 battery to the affordable Stereo 140 models. This was previously reserved for the more expensive variants. This combination is probably currently unique in the price range below 5000 euros >> e.g. available here.
But it's not just the drive technology that's new. Compared to its predecessor, the carbon frame is also lighter and has a sportier geometry. What has remained is the uncomplicated character, now with a sporty touch. It doesn't take long to get used to.
The riding position is moderate and comfortable, the steering centre is high. The plush rear suspension makes the ride very comfortable. In addition, the rear end literally sucks itself to the ground, so that there are no traction problems despite the moderately grippy tyres. On really steep climbs, you do have to slide forwards a little to keep the bike on track, but even difficult uphills are quite straightforward.
The handling of the bike is very well balanced and strikes a good compromise: the Cube is safe to ride, in the Test of six E-Fullys up to 5500 euros but also one of the most manoeuvrable bikes. The weak tyres are a limiting factor on demanding off-road sections, as Cube only offers the affordable performance version of Schwalbe's Nobby Nic as a cost-saving measure.
But the Stereo's geometry and suspension can do more. Only experienced trail experts will miss some support in the rear suspension when riding fast. Top drive and range, great riding characteristics, test winner!
Balanced, versatile and uncomplicated: The Stereo Hybrid 140 combines trails and touring as well as sport and comfort. Good equipment, plenty of range and top drive at a fair price. - Florentin Vesenbeckh, Test Manager EMTB
