Topics in this article

Category: Power-E-MTB

E-MTBs in this category have high-torque motors and large batteries. They therefore push the boundaries of what is possible to ride and offer a huge range of action, but also weigh a lot.

  • Price range: from 5500 Euro
  • Weight: 22-27 kilos
  • Spring travel: 145-170 mm

  • Weight: 24.95 kg
  • Tested in: BIKE 10/25
  • Spring travel: 150/145 mm
  • Motor: Bosch Performance CX
  • Battery: Bosch Powertube 800 Wh

With the Neuron:On AL 9, Canyon has an E-Fully in its range that is comparatively light-footed despite its aluminium frame and tame touring design. The bike weighs around 25 kilograms - a good figure. The bike is a comfort-orientated all-rounder that masters both everyday use and trail tours with ease. Its modern equipment and comfortable riding position make it an attractive choice for riders who appreciate versatility and good value for money.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Plus: Balanced feel-good handling; high-quality equipment at a fair price; good range
  • Minus: Battery rattles; little reserves downhill

  • Motor: Bosch Perform. Line CX
  • Battery: Bosch Powertube 600

Watch out, this is full throttle! If you take the Focus Sam² into demanding terrain, you get brutal riding safety and a first-class chassis. On fast, built trails, the riding fun is not neglected either. A consistent descender with harmonious equipment and a fair price tag. However, the rather heavy and less manoeuvrable Focus is not made for leisurely trail rolling. The long geometry and steep seat angle of the Sam² also have a positive effect on the climbs.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Plus: Riding safety at DH level; strong and sensitive suspension; well-chosen components
  • Minus: unwieldy on narrow stretches; slight rattling; high weight despite small battery

Propain Ekano 2 CF

  • Price: 6499 Euro
  • Weight: 24.1 kg
  • Tested in: BIKE 09/25
  • Spring travel: 180/170 mm
  • Motor: Sram Eagle Powertrain
  • Battery: Sram, 600 Wh, removable

The riding characteristics of the Propain Ekano 2 CF come extremely close to the ideal of an E-Enduro. Super safe, super fun and massively forgiving. The Ekano won the Test victory in BIKE 09/25 one. However, you have to compromise on range (only 600 Wh) and the motor can no longer quite keep up with the best on the market. However, if you want to step on the gas off-road, Propain still offers a lot for your money and the ultimate baller for rough terrain.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Plus: Suspension that is easy to swallow; balanced handling; configurable equipment
  • Minus: short reach; brake pads rattle; long seat tube

Santa Cruz Vala GX AXS

  • Price: 9799 Euro
  • Weight: 22.2 kg
  • Tested in: BIKE 02/25
  • Spring travel: 160/150
  • Motor: Bosch Perform. CX
  • Battery: Bosch Powertube 600, permanently installed

The Vala not only looks different from all previous Santa Cruz e-bikes, it also rides like one. Unfortunately, the new rear suspension concept (classic four-link with Horstlink instead of VPP) cannot quite fulfil the full-bodied promises. All the more impressive is the superb handling of this fun machine. The blend of poise and reactivity hits the mark and gave the Vala the test victory in the big E-All-Mountain comparison in BIKE 02/25.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Plus: safe and fun handling; strong tyres, fork and brakes
  • Minus: Suspension travel difficult to utilise; low chassis traction; permanently installed battery

Scott Patron ST 910

  • Weight: 26.6 kg
  • Tested in: BIKE 07/25
  • Spring travel: 170/150
  • Motor: Bosch Perform. Line CX
  • Battery: Bosch Powertube 800, removable

Steep uphill, nasty downhill or long mountain tour? Nothing can really scare the powerful Scott with its first-class chassis. It cuts a fine figure in any terrain. Added to this is the unique design with the shock absorber integrated into the aluminium frame. Comfort and traction are above average on the ST model. Although this also applies to the weight of over 26 kilos, the Nevertheless, the Scott won the test in BIKE 7/25.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Plus: Balanced up- and downhill; good suspension; high grip qualities
  • Minus: Comparatively expensive and heavy

Specialised Levo 4 S-Works

  • Price: 14500 Euro >> available here
  • Weight: 23.8 kg
  • Tested in: BIKE 06/25
  • Spring travel: 160/150
  • Motor: Specialised S-Works
  • Battery: Specialised 840 Wh, removable

The latest version of the Levo is intended to be the measure of all things and does indeed raise the bar in the full-power segment to a new level. The interplay of frame, motor, shock and many in-house add-on parts is impressive. The engine power, chassis, handling and detailed solutions are impressive across the board. The S-Works motor is smooth and powerful and is one of the most powerful on the market. The extreme price and the weight of almost 24 kilos score less points.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Plus: Powerful engine; high-end equipment; well thought-out details; solid chassis
  • Minus: High price; sensitive paintwork; not lightweight
