Employer bike leasing is booming - and for good reason. Thanks to the tax advantages of salary conversion, you can often save up to 40 per cent compared to direct purchase. Anyone who also uses their company bike to commute to work is not only doing something for their health, but is also protecting the environment - and saving a lot of money in view of the horrendous petrol costs. What's more, car commuters often waste a lot of time in traffic jams, which is not exactly easy on the nerves. Cycle commuters, on the other hand, enjoy the morning oxygen shower and start their journey with a fresh head.
A decisive factor for the success of the job bike model is choosing the right bike. We took a look at Canyon's current portfolio and selected four models that fit perfectly into this concept.
Three factors count for an ideal leasing bike for everyday use: efficiency, handling and equipment. Our selection focusses on the new "ONfly" models and the Citylite:ON. All selected bikes have a modern e-drive. The advantage is obvious: thanks to the motorised assistance, you can tackle inclines effortlessly and arrive at the office without breaking a sweat - even in summer.
Another focus is on weight. While classic e-bikes often weigh over 25 kilograms, the Canyon ONfly models rely on light support systems from Bosch (SX) and Fazua (Ride 60). This makes the bikes significantly more agile in city traffic and easier to carry into the basement, home or office. They are also available with full equipment (lights, mudguards, pannier rack), which makes them suitable for use all year round. In terms of price, our candidates range between 3,000 and 4,500 euros - a range that is covered by most employers and results in manageable monthly costs.
The Grizl:ONfly CF Daily is the answer for anyone who doesn't want to choose between tarmac and gravel. As an e-gravel bike with full commuter equipment, it bridges the gap between sports equipment and everyday donkey. The "Daily" package includes high-quality mudguards and a minimalist pannier rack that holds side bags for a laptop or shopping. The centrepiece is the lightweight Bosch Performance Line SX motor, which, with 55 Nm of torque and up to 600 watts of peak power, delivers plenty of punch when called upon. The carbon frame not only ensures a stylish look, but also keeps the weight surprisingly low at 17.7 kilos (manufacturer's specification) despite being fully equipped. Thanks to the integrated lighting and the relaxed gravel geometry, you are safe and comfortable on the road - whether on the direct route to work or on a diversion through the forest. The Bosch ConnectModule additionally secures your bike against theft in everyday life.
If comfort and simplicity are your top priorities, the Citylite:ON is the first choice. This e-city bike was specially developed for urban areas. Maintenance was a top priority for the developers of this bike. The low-maintenance belt drive in combination with a hub gear system, for example, is a key factor. This means no chain grease on the suit trousers and minimal maintenance over the entire leasing period. The Bosch Performance Line motor ranks one class below the Bosch Performance CX known from e-mountainbikes, but with 75 Nm it provides enough powerful support to start off quickly at the traffic lights even when fully loaded and to master steep climbs effortlessly. Thanks to the long head tube and the high front, you sit comfortably upright on the Citylite:ON. A clever detail is the standard frame lock and the option to retrofit a front carrier - a classic "carefree package" for daily use between home, daycare centre and office. At just under 22 kilos, the Citylite:ON is the lightest e-bike in its class according to the manufacturer.
The Pathlite:ONfly is the all-rounder in the programme. If you're looking for an e-trekking bike that doesn't ride like a heavy tank, you'll find it here. Canyon also uses the lightweight Bosch SX system here, which makes the bike significantly more dynamic than conventional trekking e-bikes. The 63 mm suspension travel at the front smoothes out cobblestones and forest paths with ease. In the "ONfly" version, the bike is weight-optimised and can be manoeuvred around bends with ease. The equipment is complete: mudguards, kickstand and a robust pannier rack are fitted ex works. It is the perfect bike for commuters who like to go on extended tours into the countryside at the weekend. Thanks to its low weight, it is also much easier to hoist onto a car rear carrier than heavy bikes weighing over 25 kilos.
The Roadlite:ONfly carries the sports badge among leasing bikes. If you see your bike as fitness equipment and want to use your commute to work for a quick workout, this is the right bike for you. With its flat handlebars and agile geometry, it is extremely fast and manoeuvrable. In contrast to the other models, Canyon has opted for the Fazua Ride 60 drive on the Roadlite:ONfly. This offers a particularly natural riding experience: when the motor switches off at 25 km/h, you feel almost no resistance and can easily ride faster under your own power. The design is minimalist and clean, with the lighting elegantly integrated into the frame and seat post. Despite the sporty design, mudguards can be fitted as an option to make the bike weatherproof. An ideal bike for purists.
With job bike leasing, you can always go one level higher in terms of price - the gross-net settlement levels the actual financial burden down again. What's more, the instalments don't hurt as much as a one-off purchase. Nevertheless, the Canyon models recommended by us are quite affordable - as a direct seller, the Koblenz-based company saves on the retail margin and can therefore calculate the RRP more favourably for customers. In our model selection, we deliberately focussed on the current light models from the Canyon portfolio. Especially in everyday life, where you have to carry the bike up and down a few steps, every kilo counts. And unlike in the sporty E-MTB sector with steep climbs on long tours, you don't need the maximum motor power and battery capacity when commuting and in city traffic. The rest is a matter of taste: whether you choose a sporty e-gravel bike like the Grizl:ONfly or a cosy city cruiser like the Citylite:ON is up to you.
