Anyone who finds "Moin, moin" borderline garrulous will enjoy the E-Cargoville from Bergamont have. The Longtail from the Elbe is a sturdy cargo bike with large wheels, good handling characteristics and high-quality equipment. What you see is what you get. The powerful four-piston brakes from Magura are particularly impressive. The Bosch cargo motor in combination with the crisp gears provides a high level of dynamism. In typical Longtail fashion, passenger transport takes centre stage. There is plenty of room for two older children on the rear carrier, and the padded railing and footrests are impressive. The licence of 54 kilos is just enough for two small passengers.
Unfortunately, the seat cushions are a little hard and the unsprung E-Cargoville is also relatively stiff. Adjusting the air pressure of the wide tyres to the rider's weight and load is a must. We didn't ride the Bergamont with more than two bars of tyre pressure, even when loaded. Praiseworthy: The product managers specify particularly stable tyres with triple carcass ply. A frame lock would add practical value. Due to the system, the bike's centre of gravity moves upwards when loaded, but thanks to the large wheels, the E-Cargoville doesn't fall into potholes as much.
To secure classic loads on the rear carrier, you need a suitable box and a little creativity when loading. The front rack has space for flat loads of up to 12 kilos in a stylish, matching bag. With a lowrider mounting position on the fork, front and rear racks and a long range, the E-Cargoville could also be used as a classic touring and high-lift touring bike. For example, when the kids are on their own bikes at some point. However, the Shimano XT gears from the sporty Hyperglide series are not designed for longevity, and the motor and display could do with an update to the new, refined Bosch generation.
Bergamont's E-Cargoville is a head of character. The rigid fork concept is stable and low-maintenance, the large wheels favour the riding characteristics without a load. However, you have to be able to cope with the high centre of gravity when loaded. A slightly fresher motor and a gear system with a stronger focus on durability would be nice to see on the next model. - Adrian Kaether, Test Manager MYBIKE
