The compact bike specialist QiO presents its first longtail cargo bike, the Long. The 201 cm long e-bike combines the proven 20-inch wheel size with an extended rear platform for transport tasks. The development builds on four years of experience with the compact QiO One (test here) and is aimed at urban mobility and everyday family life.
The Long adopts key design features from its compact sister model. The front frame area remains the same as the QiO Compact, which reduces development costs and continues the standardised design language. The adjustability to different body sizes, the optional front carrier system and the battery positioning behind the seat tube remain the same. The further developed main frame should manage with three fewer weld seams.
QiO offers the Long in two equipment variants. The top model CLA (Cargo Line Automatic) utilises the latest Bosch Cargo Line motor with a large 800 Wh PowerPack battery. A Gates CDX belt transmits the power to the automatically shifting Enviolo HD hub gear. Suspension is provided by an SR Suntour Mobie 34 fork, supplemented by a suspended by,schulz seatpost with anti-theft protection.
The entry-level P9 model combines the Bosch Performance motor with a 545 Wh battery and a nine-speed Shimano Cues derailleur system (11-36 teeth). This variant marks the first QiO with derailleur gears and starts at €3999. A rigid fork is used instead of the suspension fork, while the by,schulz seatpost is retained. Lighting is provided by a Busch & Müller Briq-S headlight with 60 lux.
Both versions share central components. They come with Magura Louise 4-piston disc brakes and Schwalbe pick-up tyres in 60 mm width. A Spanninga sensor rear light with brake light function increases safety. The Bosch systems are controlled via a Purion 200 display. There is also an Abus Xplus battery lock to protect against theft.
The ergonomics can be customised using the Speedlifter stem and an angle-adjustable stem. A two-legged parking support with handlebar lever operation stabilises the loaded bike when stationary. The CLA model is equipped with an IQ-X headlight from Busch & Müller with 100 lux basic light and 150 lux high beam. The maximum seat height is 120 cm, the minimum is 100 cm.
The rear platform is deliberately large enough for two child seats. Children do not sit directly behind the driver's back or rucksack. Integrated footrests and an attractive side panelling are included in the scope of delivery. There is space for a second, optional battery behind the spoke and dirt guard. The platform can carry a maximum of 80 kg with a permissible total weight of 200 kg.
The modular accessories programme starts with seat cushions for different age groups, a variable railing and large cargo bags. The railing uses a child-safe "push-to-open" system and offers side openings for easy entry and exit. Adults receive a front grab handle (since 2020, adults have been allowed to ride on suitable bikes). Almost all existing QiO accessories also fit the Long.
The Long expands QiO's range from compact bikes to versatile mobility solutions for urban areas and touring. Deliveries are scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2025.
With the Long, QiO is finally expanding its range with the long overdue Longtail. Like the QiO One, the Long also comes in a modern look and with a relatively moderate price tag. Details such as the main stand with remote control, railing and fold-out footrests look well thought out. We are excited to see how the QiO performs in our first tests. - Adrian Kaether, Test Manager MYBIKE
