Compact, flexible, suitable for families: Decathlon launches new 2-in-1 child trailer EXPL 900: With the EXPL 900 trailer Decathlon presents a versatile companion for families who enjoy travelling together. The new child trailer can be used on a bike or converted into a buggy in just a few simple steps - and focuses on one thing above all: maximum suitability for everyday use.
A key feature is the clever folding system. When folded, the trailer measures just 68 × 48 × 48 centimetres with a volume of 157 litres - compact enough for a car boot or the corner of a flat. "Many trailers are simply too bulky for everyday use," says Product Manager Jeremy. "Our aim was to develop a model that is easy to stow away and makes life noticeably easier for parents."
With a weight of 13.5 kilograms (without accessories), the EXPL 900 remains comparatively light. Fully equipped with wheels, bag and pull bar, it weighs 19 kilograms. One or two children from six months up to a height of 114 centimetres can be transported. The maximum total weight is 59 kilograms, of which 36 kilograms can be carried by the children.
Inside, Decathlon focuses on a mixture of protection and cosiness. The 58-centimetre-wide cabin offers a generous 270-degree field of vision thanks to three windows. Shock absorbers compensate for bumps, while padded seats with an integrated headrest and 5-point harness system ensure safety. The covers are removable and washable.
Product designer Thomas describes the concept as follows: "Robust like a buggy on the outside, like a cocoon on the inside." In fact, the interior is more reminiscent of a small comfort zone: plenty of space, a panoramic view and a child-friendly design.
Practical details round off the overall package: a mosquito net and rain cover protect against the weather, while a stowable sun visor provides shade. Four inner compartments offer space for snacks and toys, while ventilation openings at the front and rear provide fresh air. Reflectors increase visibility in road traffic, while a foot-operated parking brake ensures a secure footing.
The EXPL 900 is compatible with both classic bicycles and e-bikes and is designed for speeds of up to 25 km/h. The supplied coupling is suitable for quick-release and solid axles with a diameter of less than 12 millimetres; a special solution is required for thru axles.
The trailer is also flexible away from the bike: two buggy wheels are included and turn it into a pushchair in no time at all. In addition, a 43-litre pannier offers storage space and can be easily attached thanks to the click system. If you want to transport more, you can attach additional equipment such as tents or blankets to the roof.
Decathlon is already planning further accessories for even more possible uses: a baby lounger for children under six months is in preparation, and a large front wheel will also be available for jogging in early 2027.
The EXPL 900 trailer will be launched in April 2026 and will be online at Decathlon, as well as in selected shops. The price is 499.99 euros.
