With the Electric T Line, London-based manufacturer Brompton is launching the lightest folding e-bike in the company's history. According to the manufacturer, the bike weighs 11.2 kilograms without the battery (and 14.1 kilograms with). For the first time, the British company is combining its Titan product line with electric assistance and introducing the smart e-Motiq system. The proprietary drive system should enable a range of up to 90 kilometres. Brompton manufactures the Electric T Line by hand from titanium and carbon in London. The manufacturer is expanding its electric model range following the success of the G Line Electric, which was launched last year with 20-inch wheels. was presented.
The Electric T Line uses a combination of titanium and carbon for the frame. The material is intended to enable the low weight and at the same time provide the necessary stability for everyday use. The iconic 3-way folding mechanism is retained - the bike can be folded to a third of its size in three steps. According to the manufacturer, the folding process takes less than 20 seconds. When folded, the bike is said to be easy to roll and carry thanks to SuperRoll+. The compact dimensions allow it to be transported on public transport, in the boot or in a taxi if required.
The e-Motiq system includes a specially developed rear hub motor with 250 watts of power. With the T Line, the system is designed to deliver up to 24 Nm of torque - the G Line reaches up to 30 Nm. A torque sensor detects the rider's pedalling power and regulates the motor assistance accordingly. The removable 300 Wh battery can be charged separately. The system offers a start-assist mode for steep climbs and traffic junctions. In walk-assist mode, the motor provides support when pushing at up to 6 km/h.
The new e-Motiq handlebar control displays ride data in real time and controls support settings and lighting. In combination with the Brompton Electric app, the system promises intelligent range forecasts and over-the-air updates. The software should recognise individual riding behaviour after the first 100 kilometres and continue to adapt to the user's habits every 6 kilometres. The handlebar unit should therefore provide realistic information on the battery charge and remaining range.
The e-Motiq system is also used in the C Line and P Line. The classic C Line utilises a steel frame, while the P Line is positioned as a lightweight version. All electric models retain the characteristic Brompton ride feel - with flexibility and suppleness taking centre stage. Brompton offers a range of frame materials, finishes and accessories for customised configurations. A new range of luggage solutions designed specifically for e-bikes completes the range. Each model comes with a 3-year warranty on the electrical system.
The Electric T Line will be available for pre-order on 21 October via Brompton.com and the Brompton Junction Stores in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Vienna. From 28 October, the model will be available in regular shops at selected authorised dealers. The manufacturer has not yet announced prices.
