Tern unveils the fourth generation of its Vektron folding e-bike, which is equipped with a more powerful Bosch mid-motor, the innovative Bosch Smart System and an optional low-maintenance Gates toothed belt drive.
According to Tern founder Josh Hon, it is a particular challenge to develop a bike that combines the qualities of a high-quality e-bike with the advantages of a compact folding bike. Normally you have to compromise on ride quality, motor performance, battery safety, ease of maintenance, weight or folding dimensions.
With the Vektron, however, the company has succeeded in developing a bike that is convincing in all these decisive points. By the way: Everything you need to know about folding bikes can be found here.
The Vektron rides like a fully-fledged premium e-bike thanks to its rigid frame, reinforced steering column and patented OCL+ folding joint. These design features are intended to ensure a safe, stable riding experience. According to the manufacturer, the combination of robustness, responsiveness and ride quality makes the Vektron the reference in its class.
The new, fourth generation also offers the choice between two different cockpit configurations: On the one hand, the familiar sporty riding position of the previous model, and on the other, a new, more comfortable cockpit inspired by the successful Tern GSD and HSD models. The longer steering column and the more cranked handlebars enable a more upright seating position, which provides a better overview, especially in city traffic.
Each Vektron is powered by a powerful Bosch mid-motor, whose smooth, natural pedalling support is designed to feel particularly effortless on any terrain.
The top models P10 and P5i benefit from an increase in power to 75 Nm torque - an increase of 10 Nm compared to the previous model with 65 Nm. This increase in power is particularly noticeable when starting off after stopping at traffic lights or on steep climbs and makes the compact folding e-bike even more dynamic in urban use.
The combination of compact folding dimensions and powerful drive makes the Vektron a versatile companion for city traffic, which can be easily transported on public transport and at the same time offers sufficient power reserves for demanding route profiles.
The integration of the Bosch Smart System opens up numerous new possibilities for digital connectivity. In conjunction with a smartphone, the system enables functions such as electronic locking and navigation. Software updates can be conveniently installed "over-the-air" without the need to visit a workshop. Optional features such as GPS tracking and an alarm system are also available, which offer additional security, particularly in urban environments with an increased risk of theft.
Another advantage of the Bosch Smart System is the industry-leading service network, which guarantees comprehensive support and promises rapid assistance in the event of a problem. Digital connectivity makes the Vektron a modern mobility tool that can be seamlessly integrated into everyday connected life while benefiting from the reliability and service of an established technology provider.
One of the most frequently requested improvements for the Vektron was the integration of a belt drive - this wish has now been fulfilled with the new Vektron P5i. As folding bikes are regularly transported - through railway stations, in and out of cars or motorhomes, in lifts with other people - objects or clothing often get dirty from the greasy chain.
The Gates toothed belt eliminates these problems and at the same time impresses with even smoother running and significantly reduced maintenance. In combination with the 5-speed hub gears, Tern is positioning the new Vektron P5i as the ultimate bike for urban use, which promises clean, reliable and low-maintenance operation, especially for commuting cyclists.
The toothed belt drive is more than just more practical in everyday use, it can also extend the service life of the drivetrain and reduce the total cost of ownership over the service life of the bike.
The Vektron can be folded into a compact package in less than 10 seconds, which can be easily rolled on its own wheels. This feature proves particularly handy when transporting through crowded railway stations or in lifts, where the folded wheel can be easily pushed.
When folded, the Tern Vektron can be stowed away under desks, in office corners or luggage compartments to save space. Even when travelling with a motorhome or caravan, there is always a place for the compact folding e-bike.
The Vektron offers an ideal solution for commuters travelling in cities without secure outdoor parking facilities: the bike can simply be folded up and taken into the office or home, minimising the risk of theft.
The combination of electric drive and folding mechanism makes the Vektron a versatile mobility tool that can be flexibly adapted to different usage scenarios and combines the advantages of both worlds.
The Vektron has been tested in accordance with the European standard EN 15194 for e-bikes and is UL 2849-certified. This certification means that the entire electrical system - consisting of the motor, battery and charger - has been independently tested for safety.
In addition to technical safety, Tern attaches great importance to comprehensive customer service. The Vektron comes with a comprehensive warranty with extended coverage for the frame, steering column and fork of up to 10 years.
The manufacturer supports and guarantees the availability of spare parts, including the battery and electronics, for at least seven years after purchase. Another customer-friendly feature is the warranty transfer, which makes it possible to transfer the protection of the bike to the second owner. This option increases the resale value and provides peace of mind for buyers and sellers. The long-term support and spare parts supply emphasises Tern's quality standards and the positioning of the Vektron as a long-lasting premium product.
The new Vektron models P5i and P10 will be available from Tern dealers from October 2025. The recommended retail prices start at 3999 euros. A limited edition Vektron P7i with 7-speed hub gears and Bosch Active Line Plus motor will also be available especially for the German, Austrian and Benelux markets at an entry-level price of 3799 euros.
Further European and North American markets will be supplied with the new Vektron by the end of 2025, although the availability of the models and their specifications may vary depending on the market.
The different model variants cover different price points and equipment levels, with all versions benefiting from the improved folding mechanism, Bosch drive and high-quality workmanship.
