The bicycle manufacturer Giant has introduced a new city trekking e-bike, the NewTour E+. The model combines an upright riding position with the Giant E+ system and digital safety functions. The e-bike is aimed at commuters and leisure cyclists who are travelling in an urban environment. To achieve this, Giant has opted for a particularly upright and comfortable riding position. Operation should also be as uncomplicated and self-explanatory as possible. The NewTour E+ remains attractively priced. It starts at 2799 euros.
The product developers have come up with several tricks to increase comfort. The cockpit is positioned particularly high up, while the curved handlebars ensure an upright riding position. At the front, a suspension fork with 63 mm travel absorbs bumps and impacts. At the rear, a suspension seat post takes over this function.
The SyncDrive Core 2 motor with 55 Nm torque should provide smooth and natural support. The rather low power output of this unit should easily suffice for classic city use. The compact RideControl Dash 2 display combines the data display with a compact control switch directly on the left handle. This combination clearly displays the riding data, support modes and the E-Lock function and is easy to operate. The motor works with PedalPlus 6 sensor technology, which, according to Giant, should adapt the assistance to pedalling movements and terrain with particular sensitivity. The Smart Assist mode is designed to automatically regulate the support levels so that you no longer have to worry about finding the right level yourself.
The E-System of the NewTour E+ also has smart integrated safety features. A digital E-Lock can be used to deactivate the motor assistance when parked. It is controlled via the display. No additional external hardware is required. The e-bike is also compatible with Apple Find My. This allows owners to locate the e-bike via the Apple network. This works via the same infrastructure as Apple AirTags. Unfortunately, Android smartphones do not benefit from this.
Giant equips the more expensive models of the NewTour E+ with a Gates CDC Carbon Drive belt drive, combined with a Shimano Nexus hub. The system is said to require less maintenance and be quieter than conventional chain drives.
In Germany, the NewTour E+ is now available in two equipment variants. It starts with the NewTour E+ 2 for 2799 euros. The bike comes with a 500 battery and SR Suntour 32 Mobie suspension fork. A classic chain is responsible for power transmission, while the 8 gears are shifted by a Nexus hub gear system. The NewTour E+ 1 is available for 3199 euros, with the 625 Wh battery and Gates belt drive being the main updates on the agenda.
The Giant NewTour E+ is positioned in the comfort-oriented e-bike segment and is suitable for city to trekking use - as long as you don't want to leave the tarmac. With the integration of Apple Find My and the digital E-Lock, Giant has smart features on board. The belt drive option promises quiet running and little maintenance stress - a blessing for uncomplicated everyday use. The prices are fair and attractive.
