The design of the new Cannondale FlyingV is based on the legendary DeltaV frame of the 90s. Two versions are available: FlyingV 1 with Shimano Di2 electronic shifting and Gates belt, FlyingV 2 with mechanical Nexus shifting.
The new urban e-bike from Cannondale's development centre in Freiburg combines racing expertise with modern electromobility. The frame shape is reminiscent of the Delta V series from the 1990s. Moulded carbon mudguards are even used for the first time. All of this is designed to make the bike light. Unfortunately, the exact weight of the FlyingV is not yet known.
The frame utilises internal cable routing and offers space for the integrated 400 Wh CompactTube battery in the down tube. Flat mount brackets allow the Shimano UR300 disc brakes with 180 mm rotors to be fitted at the front and rear.
The Bosch Performance Line SX motor delivers 60 Nm torque and up to 600 W peak power. Pedal assistance is provided up to 25 km/h, beyond which the manufacturer promises a natural riding experience without motor resistance. Cannondale specifies a range of 50-115 kilometres, depending on the selected support level.
The FlyingV 1 combines a Shimano Nexus Inter-5E Di2 electronic hub gear with a Gates CDC centre track belt. The five gears can be shifted electronically, optionally also fully automatically. The 128-tooth belt works together with a 46T Gates chainring and a 36T sprocket.
The Samox Bosch e-bike crank uses no offset on the left and 13mm offset on the right. The system promises maintenance-free operation and clean power transmission without chain lubrication. The gears also work under load and when stationary.
The geometry comprises four sizes from SM to XL with 700C wheels. The head angle is a constant 72°, the seat angle 71°. The top tube length varies from 52.6 cm (SM) to 64.2 cm (XL), the standover height from 63.4 cm to 68.4 cm.
The wheelbase ranges from 101.1 cm (SM) to 112.5 cm (XL) with a constant chainstay of 47.1 cm. Stack values range between 58.0 cm and 68.3 cm, reach between 40.0 cm and 46.0 cm. The fork uses 5.5 cm of travel with 6.1 cm of trail.
The wheels use Ryde aluminium rims with 25 mm inner width and tubeless-ready design. 32 DT Swiss Champion spokes connect the rims to the Shimano hubs. A TC500 with 12x100mm thru-axle works at the front, while the Nexus hub gears work at the rear.
The FlyingV 1 rolls on Continental Pure Contact tyres in 700x50c with tubeless-ready technology. The FlyingV 2 uses Continental Contact Urban tyres in the same size. The maximum tyre width is limited to 50 mm by the carbon mudguards.
The Cannondale Urban Backsweep handlebar offers 93mm rise, 24° bend and 700mm width with 31.8mm clamping. Ergon GA3 grips are designed to ensure comfort on longer rides. The Cannondale C1 Conceal stem integrates an SP-Connect mount in the clamping cap.
All models use the Cannondale AppTag for automatic smartphone connection to the Cannondale app. The FlyingV 1 comes with an SP-Connect universal mobile phone clamp, the FlyingV 2 only has the stem mount. The Selle Royal saddles are different: Lookin EVO on the FlyingV 1, Essenza on the FlyingV 2.
The lighting comes from Supernova with Mini2 LDM front light and TL3-Z rear light including reflector. The customised pannier rack offers a load capacity of 18 kg and is positioned offset to the rear. This is to prevent the heels from coming into contact with panniers.
The carbon mudguards were developed in parallel with the frame development and are designed to be quiet and stable. A Pletscher-compatible stand can be fitted as an option. Hidden mounts for Bluetooth trackers such as Chipolo or AirTag are integrated.
The cheaper FlyingV 2 version uses mechanical Shimano Nexus Inter-5E gears with microSHIFT trigger levers. The Bosch LED controller replaces the system controller display with mini remote. The Gates belt drive remains identical to the FlyingV 1.
The FlyingV 2 is available in the colours Tungsten Blue and Tiger Eye, the FlyingV 1 in Silver. All variants use the same frame geometry and basic equipment. The seat post varies in length: 300mm (SM), 350mm (MD), 400mm (L/XL).
The FlyingV is compatible with the Bosch PowerMore Range Extender for extended range. It is installed using the plug-and-play system. The permanently installed battery cannot be removed - a weight-saving measure of over one kilogramme according to the manufacturer.
Smartphone integration takes place via the SP-Connect system and AppTag. The Cannondale app starts automatically when the smartphone is approached and provides navigation and riding data. The system is compatible with various SP-Connect mounts.
