Maxx from Rosenheim presents the Maxximo ELB Longtail in two versions. As a robust e-bike, it rolls on 24-inch wheels and is designed for a system weight of up to 250 kg. The aluminium frame makes it particularly easy to get on and off thanks to the 39 cm step-through height. With the Urban model, Maxx is primarily aimed at families. The Strong model, on the other hand, is designed to carry riders weighing up to 160 kg.

Topics in this article

The new ELB Longtail from Maxx combines transport capacity with driving dynamics. According to Maxx, the new series combines suitability for everyday use and load capacity for various areas of application. The developers concentrated on predictable driving behaviour with a high payload. Two model variants cover different requirements: Urban for everyday family use and Strong for heavy-duty use. The aluminium frame forms the basis for both versions.

The design deliberately uses compact dimensions for urban manoeuvrability. The low centre of gravity thanks to 24-inch tyres stabilises the handling under load. However, Maxx has decided against the very small 20-inch wheels that are common in the compact class. The geometry should be balanced and allow controlled riding even with a child seat or panniers. The integration of Bosch drive and suspension fork extends the range of use beyond tarmac roads. How good is the Bosch motor really? We have the endurance test.

The frame structure enables easy handling in everyday life. With a step-through height of 39 cm, the low step-through allows you to get on and off the bike quickly, even when loaded. Despite the low geometry, the engineers have retained the frame rigidity. This design makes it particularly easy to ride with children or heavy luggage.

The aluminium construction is designed to optimally balance weight and rigidity. Reinforcements at critical points ensure durability even with daily use. The geometry takes into account the changed weight distribution due to rear loading.

24-inch wheels for stability

The wheel size distinguishes the Maxximo from conventional longtails. The slightly smaller wheels lower the centre of gravity and increase the stiffness of the entire system, without Maxx switching to very small 20 inch wheels. The aim is to find the ideal compromise between dynamic riding behaviour, stiffness and agile handling in the city.

Smaller wheels lower the centre of gravity and increase the stiffness of the entire system.

The stiffer wheel design transmits steering inputs more directly and reduces unwanted movements in crosswinds. The lower centre of gravity stabilises handling when cornering and braking. Maxx combines these advantages with sufficient ground clearance for different surfaces. The compact design makes manoeuvring and parking easier.

Bosch drive meets suspension fork

The electric system utilises proven Bosch technology for reliable support. The motor effortlessly masters even steep climbs with a full load. The suspension at the front absorbs bumps and increases comfort for the rider and passengers. This combination extends the range of use beyond pure city journeys. The Longtail E-Bike comes with the optional Bosch ABS on the Magura MTC brakes (tested here).

The integration takes into account the special requirements of cargo bikes. Higher weights require adapted support characteristics and recuperation. The suspension fork compensates for the harder rear wheel set-up due to the additional weight. The system masters gravel paths and uneven surfaces without any loss of comfort.

Racktime Snap-It 2.0 mounts enable tool-free mounting of various transport systems. Boxes, bags or child seats can be changed in seconds.

The system mount standardises the attachment of different accessories. Families can quickly switch between child transport and luggage transport. The stable base ensures secure attachment even with heavy loads. Maxx developed the carrier for daily use and frequent conversions.

Urban version for families

The ELB Urban focusses on family-friendliness and suitability for everyday use. The low entry makes handling in city traffic easier, especially for parents with children. The equipment prioritises comfort and safety for everyday use. Integrated lighting and mudguards are included as standard.

The Urban version is aimed at users who want to replace their car with a versatile e-bike. One vehicle covers shopping, the school run and leisure trips. The configuration takes into account typical city requirements such as theft protection and weather resistance. Maxx offers various accessory solutions for specific transport tasks.

Strong model up to 160 kg rider weight

The ELB Strong extends the target group to riders weighing up to 160 kg. Reinforced components and customised geometry ensure safe use even under higher loads. The robust design is also suitable for touring riders or commercial applications. Additional reserves increase durability during intensive use.

The Strong version uses reinforced wheels and brakes adapted to the higher requirements. The seat post and handlebars are also more robust. These modifications extend the range of use without compromising on riding dynamics. Commuters with longer distances or heavy equipment will find the right solution here.

Customised online configurator

Maxx offers an in-house online configurator for both variants. Colours, equipment details and accessories can be put together individually. Transport, family and leisure accessories extend the range of possible uses according to personal requirements. The modular approach allows for later customisation and extensions.

The configurator automatically takes into account the compatibility of various components. Users receive direct price information and delivery times for their configuration. This flexibility sets Maxx apart from standard solutions from other manufacturers. Both Urban and Strong benefit from the extensive range of accessories.
