The Gravel Ground Festival will take place for the second time from 11 to 13 September 2026 at the Ewald colliery in Herten and is regarded as a meeting place for gravel bike fans. More than 50 exhibitors will be showcasing the latest gravel bikes and equipment, which visitors can test directly on the Hoheward spoil tip. The sporting highlight is the ROSE Scary Gravel Race over 45 kilometres and 750 metres in altitude. New to the programme: the "King of the Halde" mountain time trial and a kids' race for youngsters.

The Ewald Colliery in Herten will once again be the venue for the Gravel Ground Festival by Maxxis from 11 to 13 September 2026. Following the successful premiere in 2025, the second edition will utilise the industrial backdrop of the disused coal mine for three days of gravel action. The old colliery site and the surrounding gravel tracks form the basis for races, tours and an expo.

Expo and testing opportunities

Over 50 exhibitors will be showcasing their latest gravel bikes and equipment throughout the weekend. Entry to the expo is free of charge. Visitors can test the bikes directly on the neighbouring Hoheward spoil tip and the gravel tracks. Workshops and talks will impart knowledge about gravel bikes, equipment and riding technique. Event partner radrevier.ruhr will once again be offering night rides and guided tours through the training mine.

Races and new formats

The ROSE Scary Schotter on Saturday leads over the Hoheward spoil tip. The route measures 45 kilometres with an elevation gain of 750 metres and is open to participants aged 16 and over. The "King of the Halde" mountain time trial starts for the first time on Friday. On Sunday, children can compete in the Kids Race. A skills course is open to everyone between the ages of 8 and 14 on Saturday and Sunday. A stage programme, party and local gastronomy round off the festival. Camping is possible directly on the event site.
