Canyon is bringing back the Torque:On e-mountainbike with a new 800 Wh battery in an aluminium housing. The downhill E-MTB offers 180/175 mm of suspension travel and is equipped for extreme use with ASTM5 approval. Prices start at € 3,999 for the CF 7 model.

Canyon presents the Torque:On e-mountainbike with revised battery technology. The enduro e-MTB returns after a break with a new 800 Wh battery in a full aluminium housing.

Canyon is positioning the bike as usual for uncompromising shredding, big jumps and full throttle on demanding trails. World champion Fabien Barel is said to have set the direction during development, as we already wrote in the test of the Torque:On CF9.

However, at the end of 2024, Canyon recalled the Torque:On and its little brother Spectral:On due to battery problems. Cracks formed on the housing of the battery on individual bikes and Canyon withdrew the bikes from circulation. With newly developed batteries Spectral:On and Torque:On are now back at the start.

Shimano EP801 meets Darfon battery technology

The drive based on Shimano's EP801 motor with 85 Nm torque and up to 600 watts of power. The motor works together with a new 800 Wh battery that is fully integrated into the down tube. Canyon developed the battery in collaboration with Darfon for Spectral:On and Torque:On. It weighs 4.6 kilograms (BIKE measurement) and is therefore almost as heavy as the previous battery with 900 watt hours.

According to the manufacturer, the battery uses one of the first complete aluminium housings on the market. The housing body and end caps are made of aluminium for maximum resistance on rough trails. Double-sealed interfaces and two internal membranes are designed to prevent moisture formation and water ingress. Canyon wants to set standards in safety with the battery. The battery is even IP57 certified and is designed to withstand a water pressure of one metre for 30 minutes.

Cell technology with 5.6 Ah capacity

The battery technology uses 5.6 Ah cells instead of the previous 5.0 Ah cells. This means that fewer battery cells are required, which saves weight and improves the centre of gravity. The new 800 Wh battery is said to be 150 g lighter than its 900 Wh predecessor. The charging management works with CAN communication for intelligent charging. Up to 80 percent is charged quickly, followed by optimised charging of the remaining 20 percent. It takes 5 hours to fully charge the 800 Wh battery.

Model variants from CF 7 to CF 9

Canyon offers the Torque:ON in three equipment variants. The Torque:On CF 7 costs 3999 euros and is the entry-level model in the series. The CF 8 model is available for 4499 euros, while the top-of-the-range CF 9 model costs 4999 euros. All models use the same carbon frame with the new 800 Wh battery and Shimano EP801 motor.
