The Giant had already been properly pushed through the mountains before our test in the Palatinate. For a ski tour, I strapped skis and boots to the fat rucksack and thus shortened the 15 kilometre "ascent". With heavy luggage, the upright riding position with the high front and wide riser bar suited me. Although you have to pump considerably more air into the Recon fork than specified, it sensitively absorbs small bumps and utilises the entire stroke. Even the groupless Shimano stoppers were not impressed by my "system weight" of more than 90 kilos. Compared to Bulls or Focus, the Giant accelerates much slower. Of course, you can feel the 13 kilos. On the other hand, it remains true to its good-natured touring character, a pannier rack can be mounted on the rear triangle and the tyres are also suitable for this area of use. The lifetime warranty on the frame is unique in this price range.
ConclusionGood-natured touring hardtail with a comfortable riding position. Rather weak equipment, but a lifetime guarantee on the hydroformed frame.
PLUS Geometry suitable for touring, superior handling
MINUS Heavy fork, weak equipment
