Bulls introduces the Clunker Evo, an urban e-bike with 27.5-inch wheels and a Eurobox-compatible front carrier. Bulls was inspired by the birth of mountain biking and its first bikes: The Clunkers! The first mountain bikers around Charly Kelly and Gary Fisher used such bikes to clatter down steep gravel tracks in California at the end of the 70s, thus inventing modern mountain biking.
Bulls is now transferring the concept and look to urban use. A Bafang H600 rear motor delivers 30 Nm torque, the integrated battery offers 520 Wh capacity. The Shimano Deore 11-speed gear system comes with a wide-range 11-51 cassette. The Clunker Evo costs €2,999 and will be available in two colours from mid-March. The bike comes with a slim aluminium frame and 27.5-inch wheels. Wide 57 millimetre Schwalbe Hurricane tyres ensure basic comfort. A steering damper prevents the handlebars from turning when stationary.
The co-steering front pannier rack is Eurobox-compatible and holds crates of drinks. A Supernova Starstream Mini headlight sits in the carrier. A Fuxon Cob rear light integrated into the seat post shines at the rear. Tektro disc brakes slow down the e-bike. There are attachment points for mudguards and other accessories.
The Bulls Clunker Evo is, of course, first and foremost a lifestyle bike which, with its reduced technology, good price and low weight, should also find many friends in everyday life - provided the weather is good. The rear motor delivers sufficient power, the battery is easily big enough and the gears are widely spaced. However, mudguards must be purchased separately. - Adrian Kaether, Editor Test & Technology
