The Kalkhoff Entice L Season is a simple but fundamentally functional touring e-bike. The slightly reduced weight and the sporty e-system appeal to active riders. The very simple fork limits the bike somewhat.

The L suffix after the model name naturally stands for Light. Nevertheless, it's worth reading on. Because while many other manufacturers trim their lightweight e-bikes uncompromisingly for lightweight construction and, for example, permanently install the battery, Kalkhoff also keeps an eye on user-friendliness. If you are actually looking for a classic e-bike, but find the high motor power and huge batteries a little excessive, then this could be the right bike for you.
The other side of the coin is, of course, that because Kalkhoff thinks moderately about the Light concept, the Entice L is not an eye-opener in terms of weight. Our test bike with diamond frame weighs 23.6 kilograms. Compared to the usual 27 kilos in this class, however, that is quite a difference. This is also made possible by thanks to the sporty top Bosch SX motor (tested here). It responds particularly sensitively, offers 55 Newton metres and a very high peak power if you pedal sportily. Above 25 km/h, it shines with particularly little resistance.
Kalkhoff combines the motor with the small and lightweight 400 series battery. The battery is secured in the classic way with a spanner and can be conveniently removed from the down tube. However, it takes a little practice to correctly clamp the lightweight battery with its delicate lugs back into the retaining rail.

On the Kalkhoff, you sit in a slightly sporty position and yet very relaxed in the comfortable and wide saddle. This means you can pedal hard but also enjoy longer tours. The riding position can be easily adjusted towards a comfortable position using the adjustable stem.
The Kalkhoff cuts a fine figure in town and on tour. The steering is intuitive and direct. The sensitive motor is a clear highlight, and the kickstand, lights and pannier rack are solid. If you need even more storage space, you can mount an optional front rack on the head tube. The affordable Cues 4000 gear system with nine gears shifts with little definition but is generally reliable. Shimano's MT200 disc brakes also do their job without complaint.
With slightly profiled Smart Sam tyres, the Entice is also ideal for moderate off-road adventures. The wide but not overly wide handlebars are also pleasing and provide a lot of control. However, you shouldn't go too wild. The biggest weak point here and overall is the stubborn, cheap Suntour fork. A rigid fork would probably be a lighter and more durable alternative. If you're interested, you could take a look at the even lighter but slightly more expensive models in Kalkhoff's Endeavour L range.
