In recent years, Tenways has made a name for itself primarily as a provider of affordable e-bikes with hub motors. With the AGO Air, the brand with Chinese roots has already ventured in the direction of powerful mid-drive motors. Now comes the logical addition: the AGO Air Belt Drive for 2499 euros combines the proven mid-motor platform with a low-maintenance drive concept for even more everyday practicality.
The centrepiece of the new version is the combination of Gates CDX Carbon belt drive and Shimano NEXUS 5-speed hub gears. While the chain version relies on a 9-speed gear system from Shimano CUES, the belt drive version focusses consistently on freedom from maintenance and cleanliness in everyday use. The belt requires no lubrication, works almost silently and promises significantly longer running times with less maintenance than a classic chain.
The AGO Air Belt Drive is powered by a mid-motor with a torque of 80 Nm. An integrated torque sensor ensures natural, even power delivery - even on inclines. The integrated 561.6 Wh battery (36 V, 15.6 Ah) is removable and should enable a range of up to 100 kilometres under optimum conditions. Realistically, this is more likely to be 60 to 70 kilometres. But the fact is that the battery is slightly larger than on the otherwise very reduced City bikes of the manufacturer and also enables longer tours.
The geometry is clearly orientated towards trekking use: the longer wheelbase and upright riding position promise stability and comfort over longer distances. A very favourable but still air-sprung front fork and a Selle Royal saddle should offer additional comfort. The adjustable stem allows the riding position to be customised.
Tenways has fitted the AGO Air Belt Drive with a thoroughly modern design:
At 26, the Belt Drive is 1.4 kg lighter than the chain version. That would indeed be unusual. Normally it's the other way round. However, this may reflect the better equipment of the belt drive bike for 2499 euros. The chain model is another 300 euros cheaper at 2199 euros. The permissible total weight is 145 kg.
Tenways shows with the AGO Air Belt Drive* that affordable e-bikes do not have to do without modern features. The combination of belt drive and hub gears makes the bike the ideal choice for commuters and everyday riders who rely on low-maintenance technology.
