With the model Race Two years ago, the Suunto Race 2 gave the competition a good scare: the model impressed with a very good display, good functions and an attractive price. The newly released Suunto Race 2 is a completely redesigned version.
The new model offers small improvements in several areas. In particular, the wrist-based heart rate measurement is more accurate, the processor has been updated, the display has been slightly enlarged and the weight has been reduced. The battery life is phenomenal - you quickly forget where you put your charging cable because you need it so rarely.
The GPS satellites are found very quickly and the connection is stable. The watch is great for sports - however, the smartwatch functions (listening to music, managing messages, etc.) cannot compete with the GPS. Garmin keep up.
The maps are not pre-installed - you first have to connect the watch to a WLAN. The Suunto app provides free offline maps for the whole world, divided into individual regions. So don't forget to download the map of your destination region to your watch before you go on holiday.
These are OpenStreetMap (OSM) maps, which are sufficient for most requirements. The simpler visualisation is advantageous for faster sports in order to quickly record the route and location.
Thanks to the digital crown, you can zoom in and out quickly and therefore also quickly recognise junctions on the bike. When moving quickly and navigating using only the display, the Race 2 is the best of the three watches for navigating through the terrain.
