Fast and dirty, epic and enchanting, unexpected and exciting - the route of the 25th Maxxis BIKE Transalp winds its way from 9 to 15 July. across the Alps in seven stages. A total of just under 500 kilometres and around 17,500 metres in altitude have to be covered between Nauders in Austria and Riva del Garda in Italy. Impressive numbers so far - if you want to know whether you are up to such a Transalp stage, if you want to prepare yourself optimally for the BIKE Transalp or simply compete with other mountain bikers from all over the world, there is the BIKE Transalp-Strava-Challenge.
The challenge is quite simple in terms of organisation: simply ride the planned queen stage of the BIKE Transalp in your local bike area. Whether it's the Thuringian Forest or the Bonn Siebengebirge. That's either 100 kilometres or 3,267 metres in altitude. But it only becomes realistic if you do both. With a bit of creativity and perseverance, you can also crack the altitude metres in the flatlands. For example, you would have to climb Hasselbrack (116.5 metres in altitude), Hamburg's highest hill, around 28 times to reach the altitude metres of the royal stage. Munich's Olympiaberg (just under 50 metres in altitude) requires a good 65 ascents - and the 100 km distance has not yet been completed.
The event not only offers an extra training incentive, it also gives you a good feel for what you have to achieve on a BIKE Transalp stage to reach the finish line. And this year's Queen's stage (stage 4 of the BIKE Transalp) has it all. It has: the most kilometres, the most metres in altitude and also includes the highest point of the entire Transalp week, the 2621 metre high Passo Gavia - a legend of cycling. The scenery between Bormio and Malé is also fantastic. Great scenery, huge trails, honourable history.
