Below we present three book recommendations that shed light on different aspects of travelling by bike - from great adventures to personal pilgrimages.
This large-format illustrated book brings together 40 travel reports from over 50 cycle travellers from 23 countries. The spectrum ranges from short tours through Estonia to world tours lasting several months or years - for example from Switzerland to Morocco or from France via Senegal to Peru. The book is richly illustrated with spectacular photos - ideal for daydreaming and inspiration. It shows that cycling holidays are possible for very different people - with different bikes, with luggage or even musical instruments or animals in their luggage.
Many of the stories are not just about the landscape and the route, but also about personal experiences, overcoming boundaries and encounters - this mixture makes the book emotional and motivating.
Recommendation: Perfect for anyone who has wanderlust or wants to give a gift to someone who likes to dream and wants to be inspired about where their bike might take them one day.

This book tells a very different, very personal kind of cycling journey. The author - a former restaurateur - embarks on a 1500 kilometre pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela - and describes the experience from the humorous perspective of his "inner bastard".
The route: 1500 kilometres in 28 days - by bike instead of on foot. This creates a very unique dynamic and perspective on the classic pilgrimage route. The inner bastard comments on experiences, doubts and challenges in an ironic and honest way - which makes the book an entertaining mixture of travelogue and self-reflection. It's not just about the landscape and the route, but also about inner attitude, questioning one's own life and humour - ideal for readers who want more than just a story about kilometres and roads.
Recommendation: For anyone who wants to combine cycling with depth, humour and an inner journey - or wants to give a gift to someone who is equally enthusiastic about self-reflection and adventure.
The travelogue "Mein Schweinehund auf dem Jakobsweg" has been published by Bruckmann Verlag. Price: 22.99 euros >> available here
This book tells the story of a true cycling adventure: two women - Austrians Tanja Willers and Johanna Hochedlinger - started in Cape Town and pedalled over 24,000 km through 21 countries in Africa, Asia and Europe to Vienna. In 445 days, they crossed deserts, savannahs, mountains and cities - with a tent, bike and minimal luggage. Their experiences are exciting, sometimes dangerous, often emotional - and always impressive.
The book is based on 36 original reports written during the trip - it also contains many colour photos, maps and practical tips (e.g. equipment, cooking and sleeping on the road).
It impressively conveys the themes of freedom, courage, hospitality and solidarity - and shows what is possible if you do exactly this one thing: pedal and set off.
Recommendation: For all those who love extreme adventures, want to be inspired by extraordinary people or dream of exploring the world by bike themselves - and ideal as a gift for cosmopolitan, adventurous bike fans.
