The e-bike drive specialist Fazua from Ottobrunn near Munich is presenting three innovations for its Ride 60 system (test HERE!). From June 2025, two new battery options with a higher capacity, a sporty remote control called Mode Control and a firmware update for the existing Ring Control will be available. With these innovations, the manufacturer is responding to customer requests for more range and criticism of the previous Ring Control operating unit.

New batteries with more capacity

The Bavarians had already announced it at Eurobike: the new Fazua Energy 480 batteries increase the capacity from 430 to 480 watt hours. This corresponds to a capacity increase of over 10 per cent. Despite the higher capacity, the slimline look has been retained. This is because the batteries retain the identical form factor of their predecessors. The batteries are available in two versions: permanently installed or removable. Both versions are expected to weigh 2.4 kilograms and would therefore be just under 200 grams heavier than the 430 batteries. Fazua emphasises that owners of an e-bike with a Ride 60 drive can have the new batteries retrofitted by a specialist dealer. This applies to all bikes with the Fazua Ride 60, such as the Santa Cruz Heckler SLthat Focus Jam² SL with exchangeable batterythat Haibike Lyke or also the YT Decoy SN.

New remote for sporty use

With the Fazua Mode Control, the manufacturer is presenting a new remote control that has been specially developed for sporty mountain biking. It is designed to be intuitive to use and can be easily combined with other components on the handlebars. A rocker switch makes it possible to switch between different riding modes with the thumb. As a special feature, Fazua emphasises that the boost function can be activated directly from all riding modes via a separate button.

Fazua bikes that are newly launched on the market are usually already supplied with the new Fazua components. In other words, the larger battery and the new remote. This applies, for example, to the 2025 models of the Haibike Lyke CF, which the Schweinfurt-based company has just released.

Robust construction for tough use

The Mode Control is said to have been designed to be particularly robust in order to fulfil the requirements of mountain bike use. The technology inside remains protected from water, mud and dust. Fazua promises a completely new riding experience with this innovative control. Interested parties can use the Fazua Toolbox 2.23.1 to check compatibility with their system. The new remote will be available from Fazua dealers from June at an introductory price.

How Fazua Mode Control works in the test

We have already been able to test the new Mode Control in the field. Even the first impression confirms a step forwards. The feel is much better. The lack of a degree of freedom to the right alone makes the new button feel more robust and of higher quality. Visually, it has become even more compact and sits very inconspicuously next to the handle.

The clicks with the Mode Control are more reliable. While we often did not receive clear feedback when pressing a button with the Ring Control and the system sometimes did not react to light pressure, the mode changes with the Mode Control were always reliable on the first test rides. The activation of the boost function via the separate button is also a significant improvement. Whereas the Ring Control still required a long press upwards, which was sometimes time-consuming in the decisive situations on difficult uphills, a quick click is now sufficient.

What is the Mode Control still missing for the perfect remote? It still relies on a cable. Both visually and in terms of handling, a wireless function would be the next big step. Especially as the cable of the Fazua unit is very thin. It doesn't hang neatly on most bikes, but instead flickers somewhere along the other cables towards the frame, creating loops.

Firmware update for existing control unit

Fazua is also offering a firmware update for the existing Ring Control. This should make it possible to choose between the "Urban" and "Mountain bike" application areas in the Fazua Toolbox. In the mountain bike setting, the boost function can now be activated from all riding modes with a short right-click (inwards towards the stem). This change can also be carried out by a Fazua specialist dealer.

Availability of the innovations

Fazua announces that both the new batteries and the Mode Control will be available from June 2025. Interested parties can be informed about the exact sales launch via the newsletter on the company website. Prices for the new components have not yet been announced.
