With the 612 Ergowave active 2.1 and the 602 Ergolux active 2.1, the German saddle manufacturer SQlab has developed two models for different areas of use in the cold season. While Roller training requires a static posture, outdoor riding prioritises stability and relaxation. The different requirements are reflected in the design of both saddles.
The 612 Ergowave active 2.1 appeals to ambitious cycling enthusiasts who don't want to compromise on performance during indoor training in winter. The heavy but robust 602 Ergolux active 2.1 is suitable for commuters and occasional cyclists who value comfort on everyday routes.
The Active system forms the technical basis of both models and enables controlled lateral movement of the saddle. This function is designed to support the natural movement of the pelvis when pedalling and reduce tension in the lower back. For indoor sessions the additional dynamics compensate for the limited freedom of movement on the castor, while in outdoor use it follows the natural riding movement.
The 612 Ergowave active 2.1 is aimed at sporty cyclists on mountain bikes, gravel bikes or road bikes with a forward-leaning riding position. The wave-shaped Ergowave contour with raised rear stabilises the tilted pelvis and enables efficient power transmission. This geometry proves to be advantageous during intensive indoor sessions, as it creates a stable basis for high performance.
The deeper moulded nose and the central recess create space in the front area and avoid pressure peaks during sporty postures. The saddle uses a fibreglass-reinforced polyamide shell with super-light foam and microfibre cover. The S-Tube stays help to reduce weight and allow a length of 275 mm. The maximum rider weight is 100 kg and the area of use is focussed on road riding.
The 602 Ergolux active 2.1 uses a two-stage Ergolux contour for upright to moderately reclined sitting positions. The generous support surface distributes the pressure evenly and creates a calm sitting experience for longer everyday journeys. The stepped shape provides a stable seat surface at the rear, while the lower nose at the front provides relief.
The Active system can be adjusted in two stages, and a switch lever simplifies the adjustment. The construction utilises solid CrMo struts and a polypropylene compound shell with lightweight foam padding. The hard-wearing microfibre cover can withstand everyday wear and tear. Integrated threads allow the mounting of an SQlab saddlebag with Fidlock adapter. With a length of 282 mm, the saddle can support a rider weight of up to 130 kg.
The difference in weight between the two models is around 250 grams and reflects the different design objectives. The 612 Ergowave active 2.1 prioritises low weight and dimensional stability for sporty applications, while the 602 Ergolux active 2.1 focuses on long-distance comfort and robustness.
The choice of materials supports this focus. A shell made of glass fibre-reinforced polyamide and the cover made of particularly light microfibre on the sports model 612 ensure rigidity and low weight, while the standard construction of the comfort model 602 made of polypropylene compound with a more hard-wearing upholstery cover provides cushioning and durability.
The range of sizes also differs between the models. The 612 Ergowave active 2.1 is available in widths of 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 cm, while the 602 Ergolux active 2.1 is available in 14, 15, 16 and 17 cm. The wider options for the comfort model take into account the requirements of more relaxed sitting positions, where the pelvis is loaded differently than in a sporty posture.
SQlab has positioned the sporty 612 Ergowave active 2.1 at 149.95 euros and the more comfort-orientated 602 Ergolux active 2.1 at 129.99 euros. The price difference of 20 euros is due to the more elaborate choice of materials and construction of the sports model. Both models are available immediately.
