Specialised is launching two new members of the Power EVO family: The Power EVO Pro with mirror technology and the Power EVO Comp. Both models promise what is often squared in performance saddles: maximum performance with maximum comfort.
The new saddles are based on the revised EVO shape, which Specialized developed together with WorldTour, WorldCup and amateur riders. The impetus for this came from practical experience: despite its great popularity, the original Power design showed potential for optimisation in terms of pressure distribution and comfort. Remco Evenepoel, one of the most prominent brand ambassadors, now also favours the EVO shape.
The revised geometry specifically addresses the weak points of its predecessor. Compared to traditional foam saddles, the Power EVO Pro reduces the pressure load at the tip of the saddle by an impressive 34.1 per cent. Compared to the Power Mirror, the peak pressure along the centre line is reduced by 18 percent. The sit bones are also significantly relieved with 28.8 per cent less pressure, according to Specialized.
The speciality: Specialized is democratising its mirror technology. What was previously reserved for the S-Works upper class is now moving into more affordable regions. Specifically, this means: 319 euros for the 3D printed version - 130 euros less than the S-Works Power EVO model with mirror.
The Power EVO Pro uses the mirror construction (3D printing) in a carbon-reinforced nylon shell (15% carbon, 85% nylon) with hollow titanium rails. The Power EVO Comp does without mirrors and uses high-quality foam in a pure nylon shell with chrome-alloy rails.
Both models have 2 centimetres longer rails than the Power Pro - a detail that should suit riders with more extreme riding positions in particular.
The Power EVO Pro is available in four widths (130, 143, 155 and 168 mm), the Comp in three versions (143, 155, 168 mm). At 248 grams (143 mm) for the Pro and 267 grams for the Comp, the weights are in a competitive range without aiming for lightweight records.
| Specialised Power EVO Pro | Specialised Power EVO Comp | For comparison: S-Works Power EVO | |
| Sizes (width in mm) | 130, 143, 155, 168 | 143, 155, 168 | 130, 143, 155, 168 |
| Weight (by width) | 238, 248, 257, 278 grammes | 267, 279, 290 grammes | 221 grams (143 mm) |
| Price | 319 Euro | 99 Euro | 449 Euro |
An interesting move by Specialized: the brand is addressing several target groups at once with the new models. Firstly, those riders for whom the S-Works is too expensive, but who don't want to do without mirror technology. Secondly, those who struggled with the original Power design - the EVO shape could be the solution here.
319 euros for a bike saddle is still a lot of money, but it's significantly cheaper compared to the 449 euros that the Specialized S-Works Power EVO Mirror saddle costs. 130 euros less and 27 grams heavier at a width of 143 - sounds like a good deal to us, if you don't have to be concerned about the last gram.
