Once again this year, more than 1800 exhibiting companies from over 60 nations came together on 150,000 square metres at Eurobike. Between the 3 to 7 July 2024 slightly more visitors came to the Messe Frankfurt exhibition grounds than in the previous year: 35,080 trade visitors (2023: 34,750) and an additional 33,090 bicycle fans (2023: 31,840).
The 33rd Eurobike will take place at Messe Frankfurt in 2025 from 25 to 29 June. "While this year we had to compete with the European Football Championships, the US National Day and other major events such as the Tour de France, we are returning to our established June date slot in 2025," says trade fair organiser Stefan Reisinger.
As in the previous year the BIKE team, together with our sister magazine TOUR, presented the latest Eurobike products, the events at the show and everything that happened around it. Read all about the first three days, which were reserved for trade visitors, in our live blog. Have fun reading!
At Eurobike 2023, 18,500 people took around 40,000 test rides on 1,200 test vehicles. This year, 176 exhibitors will provide 1250 test vehicles. The test track has been significantly extended to 3.6 km. It now also includes longer straights, including on the Street of Nations, an incline in the multi-storey car park and even a ramp. There is also an extra test area for ecomobility vehicles in Hall 8.
The Action Area will be particularly busy with the second edition of the Skyline BMX Contest and the new Infinity Street Show with bike pro Gabriel Wibmer (editor's note: cousin of Fabio Wibmer), among others. Other highlights for the festival audience at Eurobike 2024 include a cargo bike race, the Cargo Euro Cup, as well as the Flatland Show with BMX pro Chris Böhm and the Bembel Crit series road race. Also new this year is the fact that the final of the new virtual racing series Virtual Hero will be held at the trade fair for the first time.
These themed areas are new in 2024:
Every year, an expert jury selects the winners of the Eurobike Awards. This year, a total of 43 innovative products and projects from the bike and future mobility sector were honoured, with twelve products receiving a special award. Previously, around 300 submissions from 35 countries were assessed in a multi-stage selection process. The winners will be presented with their awards at the trade fair on 3 July 2024 and showcased in a special exhibition. The special awards are the Green Award, the Start-Up Award and the Gold Award.
You can read all about what was going on at Eurobike 2023 in our live blog from last year.
A clear trend in the area of new two-wheelers was the electric drive. Regardless of whether you are out and about on the mountain with the Lumen e-mountain bike from Scott, in the city with the "J" from Moustache or exploring any terrain with the new Tout Terrain Pamir - e-bikes are setting a clear direction of development. Smart accessories, such as the Cycplus Cube mini bike pump, are also focussing on electrification. The Toolbike from Swiss start-up Monopole epitomises the cargo bike boom and is ideal for urban use as a compact and manoeuvrable cargo bike.
Eurobike 2023 dedicated an entire hall to "The Future of Mobility": The future of mobility - that was 30,000 square metres of exhibition space in Hall 8, where everything to do with e-mobility was on display. From cargo bikes and e-scooters to the newly conceived e-MTB and e-gravel. There was also a start-up area with newcomers to the industry.
Rare bikes, frames and components were presented in the Eurobike Boutique in Hall 11.1 - the collection was also new to the bike show. There were also exhibitors for fashion and accessories.
In addition to the outdoor test and event area, there were several other events last year. Back to the roots, back to the 80s - so to speak: the Eurobike Skyline Contest was all about BMX bikes in 2023. International pros showed off their skills, including 23-year-old Lara Lessmann, who came sixth at the Olympics. BMX legend Bruno Hoffmann, a native of Frankfurt, was also in action on the outdoor area. He competed together with team-mate Paul Thölen, Olympic champion Charlotte Worthington and many other highly decorated riders from all over the world.
Trials legend Fabio Wibmer attracted even more fans, however, as he performed his "Bikeflip Show" at the trade fair in Frankfurt on both days of the festival. Together with Andrea Maranelli, Francesco Mongillo and Elia Benetton, he tricked his way through a unique set-up of trial, MTB and BMX ramps as well as over an American truck.
"For five days, Eurobike celebrates the two-wheeler in all its facets with the Bicycle Sphere," said Eurobike Project Manager Dirk Heidrich in the run-up to the bike show. In 2023, extensive exhibition and conference programmes were to bring together decision-makers from politics, industry and trade to discuss current topics and challenges in the bike sector. Eurobike also became a major political stage thanks to the National Cycling Congress, which took place at the same time as Eurobike in Frankfurt for the first time in 2023.
As usual, the Festival Days on Saturday and Sunday were aimed at all bike fans and were the two public days of the trade fair.
