The SPEZI speciality bike trade fair in Lauchringen will open its doors on 26 and 27 April 2025 and present a wide range of Folding or collapsible bikeswhich are particularly suitable for motorhome travellers. These particularly compact bikes are characterised by their 20-inch tyres, folding handlebars and small, partially foldable frames.
According to the organisers, so-called (e)-compact bikes are enjoying growing demand. They offer a combination of agility, fast acceleration and space-saving stowability. Anyone setting off on holiday with a motorhome needs a practical solution to be mobile on short journeys. This is exactly where compact and folding bikes come into their own.
Another advantage of these bikes is their unisize frame, which allows people of different heights to use the same bike. Gabriel Wolf, co-organiser of SPEZI, emphasises: "The demand for these bikes is increasing noticeably. We are therefore delighted to welcome many exhibitors from this sector to SPEZI and to be able to show visitors a wide selection."
These bikes are particularly interesting for motorhome owners as they can be easily stored in the rear garage of a typical motorhome. There they are protected from the weather, vandalism and theft.
Despite electric motorisation, there are models weighing less than 20 kilograms that can be easily attached to rear carriers. In comparison, e-bikes with large tyres often weigh over 25 kilograms. Folding bikes also impress with their particularly small pack size, meaning that they can also fit into the interior of a motorhome.
The compact wheels score points not only for stowing, but also for riding. Their agile handling makes it easy to navigate through city traffic. The lower weight also makes it easier to carry over stairs and steps.
Some forms of public transport allow 20-inch bikes to be carried free of charge, which makes it easier to combine them with other means of transport and enables longer journeys.
Manufacturers like VelloBernds and Eovolt have specialised in this area and will be presenting their solutions for holiday travellers at SPEZI. These include models with off-road equipment, which offer wide tyres and suspension forks for off-road riding.
The manufacturers HP Velotechnik and Bernds will also be exhibiting three-wheeled models with 20-inch tyres at the trade fair. These vehicles are aimed at older people and people with disabilities who are dependent on stable means of transport. The tricycles can be easily folded for transport and therefore also fit in the rear garage of a motorhome or even in the boot of a car.
SPEZI offers visitors the opportunity to test the folding and compact bikes on show for themselves. Gabriel Wolf explains: "Although folding and compact bikes are currently one of the hot topics on the bicycle market, many people still don't know anything about the advantages because they haven't ridden the bikes yet. Our test opportunities at SPEZI invite you to literally experience this trend."
Interested parties can experience the manoeuvrability of the bikes on the winding test track at the exhibition centre. The variety of exhibiting companies also makes it possible to find out about different folding and sharing mechanisms and find the right product for your next holiday.
The international special bike fair will take place on 26 and 27 April 205 in 79787 Lauchringen.
