The Epic Bikepark in Saalfelden Leogang will start again on Friday, 8 May 2026.
The Saalfelden Leogang region wins the Eco Award for sustainable mountain bike tourism. The reason: the cable cars in the bike park are powered by renewable energy and the trails are built sustainably. The bike park is also celebrating its 25th anniversary this year!

Saalfelden Leogang has launched a new project and won the first UN Sustainability Award for Tourism in Madrid on 19 March. "Nature-Driven Performance: Saalfelden Leogang as a Pioneer in Eco-Friendly Mountain Bike Tourism" is the name of the region's project. An approach that aims to combine high-quality bike infrastructure and international sporting events with a focus on environmental protection, resource conservation, regional value creation and long-term destination development.

Cable car electricity: 100 per cent from renewable energy

A central component of the award-winning project is a holistic approach to sustainability: Leoganger Bergbahnen obtains all of its electricity from regional, renewable energy sources and uses HVO100 fuel for its entire vehicle fleet, which saves up to 98.7 per cent CO2. At the same time, new single trails are being built in Saalfelden Leogang according to nature-based construction principles: Only natural materials will be used and interventions in the alpine landscape are to be minimised. In addition, visitors are to be guided more effectively and sensitised even more to nature and wildlife conservation.

Single trail inauguration at Easter

The bike park in Saalfelden Leogang will not officially open until 8 May. However, the trail builders have already been shovelling ahead in autumn and are already opening their new single trails for the first test rides at Easter. You can see the new eco-construction for yourself: "Schwarzleo" and "Knappentrail" are the names of the two moderately difficult, natural new additions.

Black Leo Trail:

  • Length: 7.6 kilometres
  • Uphill/downhill: 235 metres in altitude

The single trail route starts at the valley station of the Asitzbahn cable car and leads uphill along the forest road for 235 metres to the Forsthofalm. This is the start of the natural, hand-built single trail that winds down through the forest into the Schwarzleotal valley. Northshores, technical hairpin bends and flowing passages with views of the Leoganger Steinberge mountains await along the way. At the bottom, you can return to the valley station of the Asitzbahn cable car or take the ascent again and check out the new Knappentrail.

Miners' Trail:

  • Length: 7.4 kilometres
  • Uphill/downhill: 228 metres in altitude

From the valley station of the Asitzbahn cable car up to the Forsthofalm. There you can already see the entrance to the two new trails on the right-hand side just above the alpine pasture. However, the Knappen Trail soon branches off and challenges you with flowing turns, surprising Northshore elements and natural root passages.
