More trails close to home - the DIMB's motto is becoming increasingly true in Germany. But the path from approval to building and maintaining trails is a rocky one. That's why the DIMB is inviting all trail builders to a valuable exchange of experiences in November.

When it comes to legalising and building trails, there is probably no mistake that has not already been made. This makes it all the more valuable to share experiences of how official procedures, discussions with foresters and trail maintenance campaigns have gone particularly smoothly. Even in FFH areas. Last year, the DIMB organised such a meeting of volunteer and professional trail builders from all over Germany to network and directly exchange experiences. At that time, the meeting took place in Treuchtlingen, Bavaria, in the centre of the celebrated Heumödern Trail Park.

For this year's second edition of the Trailbuilder Days, the organisers have chosen a meeting place with a completely different, but no less successful history: Miltenberg between Odenwald and Spessart. What once began here with the MIL1 trail has now developed into a huge trail network that extends far beyond the municipal boundaries and is growing together.

The representative of a planning office will explain in a presentation how this came about and how to set up such a project properly from scratch. Other success stories such as Freiburg, Graubünden and the Würmtrails near Munich will also be discussed and analysed. All of this in dialogue with a total of 60 trail-building-experienced participants from all over Germany, who have to contend with a wide variety of forest guidelines and obstacles in their regions.

The workshops and panel discussions will take place in the Bürgersaal of the old town hall in Miltenberg and at the end of the conference there will of course be a trip out into the famous Odenwald trail network. "Anyone who lives and breathes trail building will find like-minded people, new inspiration and concrete tools for practical use here", says the organisers. DIMB registration documents.
