Navigating without a smartphone - this is now possible with the latest Komoot app for the Apple Watch. The app supports functions such as turn-by-turn navigation, activity tracking, detailed maps and offline routes.

The new Komoot app for the Apple Watch introduces a range of functions. Users can now navigate offline routes with turn-by-turn instructions and record activities directly on their watch with real-time statistics. Offline navigation is available for all Komoot users with an activated region (no premium account required).

Map on the wrist without a smartphone

The app provides high-resolution and sport-specific maps with trails, paths and road details as well as the option to zoom and pan to explore the surroundings. Routes can be downloaded and searched for offline use without being linked to the smartphone. The use of the health and fitness functions of Apple Health is also integrated. Apple's Water Lock is also supported; the function prevents precipitation on the display from triggering actions.

According to the development team, they analysed feedback from user interviews and surveys to identify the interests of users. An app that allows the Apple Watch to be used independently without a paired smartphone for sports and outdoor activities was at the top of the list.

New functions before the end of the year

Komoot has also announced further innovations for the near future. For example, route updates will be synchronised immediately and the route will be recalculated automatically. These new features are to be introduced in the course of 2026.
