Every critical buyer knows this saying: Buy cheap, buy twice! Scepticism towards discount products is understandable, especially when it comes to safety-relevant products. However, time and time again, articles appear that work surprisingly well despite their low prices.
Aldi, Lidl and Tchibo have a wide range of cycling accessories. While Lidl and Tchibo not only have these available in their shops, but also in their online shops, Aldi is in a hurry, as its own-brand Ride + Go bike range is only available for one to two weeks in the mesh boxes on the promotional area.
We rummaged around there and in the shops and found the top-quality and well-ventilated Crivit road and gravel helmet, the premium rechargeable air pump for travelling and three light sets that score points for their decent luminosity and solid workmanship. These products show that affordable products do not automatically have to mean compromising on quality and function.
Of course, they are no substitute for high-end equipment, but for commuting, everyday riding or as a second set-up, they offer excellent value for money. So in this case, the old saying doesn't apply - sometimes you get an amazing amount for little money.
Not every discounter product is an insider tip - but our examples show that inexpensive goods can certainly impress. Helmets, compressors and light sets deliver solid performance at very fair prices and are ideal for everyday use and commuting. For ambitious tours or maximum safety reserves, it is still worth reaching for premium products. But if you are looking for a reliable basic set, you will find recommendable alternatives here without any regrets. Customer-friendly is the fact that all three suppliers offer a long warranty period for their products.
