ZEG (Zweirad-Einkaufs-Genossenschaft) is launching two special e-bike models from its Pegasus brand in time for its 60th anniversary, which will be celebrated in 2026. With the Solero EVO 10 and the Solero EVO 7F Belt, the bicycle manufacturer is presenting two electric bikes that are suitable for everyday use and have been specially designed for daily commuting and weekend tours. The anniversary models are designed to impress with their balanced price/performance ratio and are available from the almost 600 ZEG member companies in Germany. With these special models, the cooperative is emphasising its position as Europe's largest two-wheeler purchasing cooperative and offering customers an alternative to other everyday bikes in the mid-price segment.

Common equipment features

Both anniversary models share a range of features that make them versatile everyday companions. The bikes are each available in three different frame shapes: as a classic diamond frame, as a trapezoidal frame with a lowered top tube and as a step-through model for particularly comfortable mounting and dismounting. The basic equipment of both models includes a suspension fork with 100 millimetres of travel, which is designed to effectively absorb bumps on the road or light dirt tracks. The hydraulic disc brakes promise good modulation and reliable deceleration even in wet conditions or on long descents. Safety in the dark is ensured by a particularly powerful lighting system with a 70 lux headlight, which should provide sufficient visibility even in complete darkness. The 55 millimetre wide tyres offer puncture protection and ensure stability on different surfaces. A sturdy rear carrier, which can carry a load of up to 27 kilograms, is fitted for transporting shopping or luggage.

Different drive concepts for different needs

The two anniversary models differ primarily in their drive concept and gear shifting. The Pegasus Solero EVO 7F Belt is designed for maximum low-maintenance. Instead of a conventional chain, a durable toothed belt is used, which does not need to be cleaned or oiled and is therefore particularly easy to maintain. The 7-speed gear hub works in a closed housing and is therefore protected from external influences such as dirt or moisture. This combination makes the bike particularly interesting for everyday riders who are looking for a bike that requires as little maintenance as possible. The drive is the Bosch Performance Line motor with 75 Newton metres of torque, which is known for its harmonious, easy-to-regulate power delivery. This motor variant is particularly suitable for beginners, as it responds less abruptly than more powerful models. The geared hub is optimised for flat to hilly terrain and, with its narrow gear range, offers particular advantages in urban environments.

Sporty version with derailleur gears and more powerful motor

The Pegasus Solero EVO 10 is aimed at sportier riders who also want to be out and about on hilly or mountainous terrain. A 10-speed derailleur gear system with a range of 436 per cent is used here, which offers a significantly wider gear range than the hub gear system of the sister model. This enables both fast rides on flat terrain and effortless climbing on steep ascents. Another advantage of the derailleur gear system is the faster gear changes, which are particularly important in mountainous terrain in order to always be able to ride at the optimum cadence. The drive unit is the new Bosch Performance Line PX motor with up to 90 Newton metres of torque, which offers slightly more power than the belt drive model. The innovative monocoque casting frame with comfort geometry is designed to ensure a safe ride and is suitable for everyday use.

Battery options and colour variants of the anniversary models

Both models are supplied with a 600 watt-hour battery as standard, which should provide sufficient capacity for most everyday journeys and tours. A version with a larger 800 watt-hour battery is also available for an additional 300 euros, which could be particularly interesting for longer distances or tours lasting several days.

The Solero EVO 10 is available in four different colours: Horizon Blue Matt, Sage, Pebble Grey and Pure Red Metallic. The Solero EVO 7F Belt is available in two colours: Sage and Horizont Blue Matt. The colour palette thus covers both subtle and more striking options and offers suitable variants for different tastes. According to Giovanni Minacapelli, Product Manager at Pegasus, the Solero anniversary models prove "that the best drive technology, modern frame concepts and high-quality components can also be realised in the mid-price range."

Availability and price

Both anniversary models will be available from ZEG dealers from the end of November 2023. The entry-level price for both variants is €2,999 (RRP) with the 600-watt-hour battery. If you opt for the version with the larger 800-watt-hour battery, you will have to pay a surcharge of 300 euros. This positions the anniversary models in the mid-price segment for everyday e-bikes with branded drives. The identical pricing for both model variants is remarkable, as it allows customers to make their decision based solely on their personal preferences regarding gearing and drive type, without financial aspects playing a role. ZEG recommends that interested customers seek advice from one of its almost 600 member companies in order to find the right frame shape, colour and battery size for them.
